In Shooting Star…

In Shooting Star, I mention that Vernon Dalhart cut a record of the song, The Fate of Mildred Doran. There is another record with the title Mildred Doran’s Last Flight, but it is the same song. The song was written by Carson J. Robison. Dalhart recorded songs under his name and about five pseudonyms including Al Craver. Apparently, he was able to record on different labels by using different names. The song emphasizes Mildred’s patriotism which coincides with her military-like uniform she wore before the flight. Dalhart is most famous for the first million selling country record, The Prisoner’s Song, also written by Robison. If I had the wings of an angel, over these prison walls I would fly . . . Also, there are Dalhart recordings of a couple different songs about Charles Lindbergh- Lindbergh, the Eagle of the USA, and Lucky Lindy. I’ve collected a few of the old records.
